This genetic test detects the mutations in the MSH2 gene. People with MSH2 mutations develop Lynch syndrome, previously known as hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC). Its mutation increases the risk to develop colorectal, endometrial/uterine, stomach, ovarian, small bowel, hepatobiliary tract, upper urinary tract, brain, sebaceous, prostate, and possibly other types of cancer. You may also need this test if your relatives have been diagnosed with MSH2 gene mutations.
